DOT's death traps
Manhattan: I hope Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio appoints a transportation commissioner who will undo Janette Sadik-Khan’s insane traffic reconfigurations, plazas and bike lanes, which have turned our city into a dangerous and gridlocked mess.
This week, an off-duty NYPD officer became the third person to die in four recent accidents on the same exit from the Queensboro Bridge — the one that Sadik-Khan turned into a death trap two years ago.
At the same time, a DOT project spent $45 million transforming Queens Boulevard near the bridge, filling traffic lanes with giant rock formations and planting greenery that did not survive under the El, where people now may sit to enjoy the screeching of the subways and of course, bike paths.
We do not need more artful redesigns that make New York less safe. We are the capital of the world and we need to get our city of commerce moving again.Winston Cooper

Citibikes look like frozen hunks of junk on our sidewalks and gobbling up parking spaces but Mike is chauffeured in gas guzzling SUV with gov parking placards so what does he care.
