Note from Suzannah B. Troy -- When you ask a plain clothes NYPD officer to identify himself, his badge number and name he is suppose to give it up. This NYPD officer is video taped repeatedly not answering which is a violation of police conduct.
Dear all:
A quick report from the Quinn protest tonight.
When we arrived at Quinn's condo at 6:00 p.m., the police were waiting for us and immediately tried to move us to the other side of 9th Ave. Thee Sargent from the NYPD Intelligence Unit who was "negotiating" with us said that this protest "came across his desk." Quinn must have made it clear to the NYPD that she didn't want protesters in front of her building, which would be an embarrassment to her. We refused to leave on the grounds that we had the right to be on the public sidewalk, and, eventually, the police officers backed down. They did not want to arrest us either because they knew they were on the wrong side of the law or because Quinn doesn't want stories in the press about the fact that people are protesting against her.
Moving forward, I hope we can focus on our messages about Quinn's record instead of fighting the NYPD….
I posted Louis Flores' video of our refusal to leave along with several pictures from the protest on my Facebook wall. Please share the pictures on your wall and help spread the word about Quinn and the movement against her.
Stay tuned for info on the next protest.
Thanks to those of you who made it.
Donny
P.S. Here's one picture of the sergeant from the NYPD Intelligence Dept telling one of the protesters that she couldn't rest for a minute because the sidewalk next to the building is private. Preposterous!
