Mayor Bloomberg rips telecommuting — while NYC attorneys do it anyway
"Telecommuting is “one of the dumber ideas” Mayor Bloomberg said he’s ever heard — but that hasn’t stopped the administration’s own lawyers from working from home, the Daily News has learned.
The city’s legal eagles rang up a whopping 21,991 billable hours from home in 2012. That’s the equivalent of 500 weeks of work at home. More than 400 city lawyers — 32% of the agency — took advantage of the policy last year, according to records obtained by The News.
Department staffers also worked 14,318 hours at home after putting in a regular shift at the office, the records show.
“They are the only ones who get away with this,” fumed a City Hall official, pointing out that other agencies bar workers from clocking in at home during routine weekday shifts."
