Daily Kos Sign Petition Christine Quinn Stop Blocking Sick Days Bill

lease join Daily Kos and our partners at NYC Paid Sick Days Coalition and the Working Families Party by telling Speaker Christine Quinn to hold a vote on the paid sick days bill that she is blocking in New York City Council. Please, click here to sign the petition.

More than one million workers in New York City risk losing pay if they take time off from work when they become ill. Many even risk being fired, as a recent survey showed that 16 percent of all workers nationwide have reported losing a job because they needed to miss work to care for themselves or a loved one.

In order to make sure workers can take the time off they need, cities such as San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, DC have enacted laws mandating paid sick days. There is actually a veto-proof majority in New York City Council to pass such a law, but Speaker Christine Quinn is blocking the proposal from getting a vote.

Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers are joining together in a mass day of action to change this. Please, take part by clicking here to tell Speaker Quinn to allow a vote on paid sick days.

Keep fighting,
Laura Clawson
