The Bloomberg administration must turn over e-mails relating to its controversial hiring of Cathie Black as schools chancellor, a Manhattan judge has ruled.

Justice Alice Schlesinger has given the city 15 business days to turn over e-mails between Black and her then-employers at the Hearst Corp. and the city, despite the city’s position that turning them over would “constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.”

Black, 66, had a short, tumultuous reign as chancellor earlier this year, and was ousted after just 96 days.

Then-Village Voice reporter Sergio Hernandez first asked for the e-mails last November, when he submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for correspondence between Black and anyone using a hearst.com e-mail account and the mayor’s office.
